   Indoor Air
Some experts state that indoor air is one of the largest, if not the largest, environmental health threat we face. Second-hand smoke, radon, molds, bacteria, pesticides, building materials, carpeting, and household chemicals contribute to indoor air problems.  In addition, poor ventilation, high temperatures and humidity can worsen indoor air problems. EPA's "The Inside Story: A Guide to Indoor Air Quality"
discusses indoor air and the issues surrounding the problem. The link also explains how this booklet can be ordered and mailed to the public.

FACT SHEETS:
The National Security Council's Environmental Health Center has fact sheets on Indoor Air topics as well as the Department of Labor's OSHA program.

Check Lists:
EPA offers checklists for teachers, school administrators, nurses, and others on a variety of indoor issues including specific checklists for ventilation, repairs, building maintenance, waste management, food service and walkthroughs.

Indoor Air Pollution: An Introduction for Health Professionals is a guide for professionals from EPA, ALA, AMA and the CPSC. It has a diagnostic checklist and sections on a wide variety of potential pollutants.

How to Conduct an Indoor Air Investigation:
OSHA publishes this technical manual to instruct professionals on conducting indoor air investigations. This manual is also informational for the general public.

Industry Groups:
Several industry groups provide certification of its members in the indoor air field.


The Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) is a nonprofit, industry-based organization that provides information on research and events, as well as certifications of mold remediation contractors and Indoor Environmentalists.

The American Indoor Air Quality Association is a a non-profit association for IAQ managers, technicians, investigators, consultants and professionals that provides certification information in a variety of IAQ fields.
